Blood Pressure Categories:
Blood pressure refers to the force of blood exerted against artery walls as the heart pumps blood. It is recorded as two numbers - systolic (heart contraction) and diastolic (heart relaxation).
The definitions for blood pressure categories are derived from the 2018 ESC/ESH Guidelines for managing arterial hypertension by the European Society of Cardiology and the European Society of Hypertension, as well as the 2017 Guideline for High Blood Pressure in Adults by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.
